Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded when I use the desktop app?
No. The desktop app and the command-line tool convert on your computer. Nothing is uploaded and no credits are used.
What happens to files I send to the API?
The PDF is deleted when the job finishes. The images are kept for one hour so you can download them, then deleted. Download links expire after 15 minutes.
Why does my conversion say password_required?
The PDF is protected. With the API, send the password in the password option. In the desktop app, enter it when asked. RasterNivo cannot open a protected PDF without the correct password.
Why were some pages not converted?
A page can fail if it is damaged, too large (over 100 megapixels at the chosen DPI) or takes too long. The other pages still convert, and you are not charged for the failed ones. Try a lower DPI for very large pages.
Which DPI should I choose?
150 DPI suits most screen use. Use 200 to 300 DPI for sharper text or printing, and 600 DPI only when you need print quality: files are much larger and cost more credits.
My job failed with insufficient_credits. What now?
Your workspace doesn't have enough credits for the pages requested, and nothing was charged. Wait for the next period, convert fewer pages or a lower DPI, or move to a larger plan. Check your balance with GET /v1/usage.
I lost my API key. Can you recover it?
No. Only a hash is stored, so nobody can read it back. Revoke it and create a new one.
How do I get a GST invoice with my company's GSTIN?
Add your GSTIN to your billing details before paying. Issued invoices can't be edited; if you forgot, write to us with the invoice number.
Is there a Mac or Linux version?
Not yet. The desktop app is for Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. The cloud API works from any platform.
